Adventure Course – Essentially a low ropes course with zip wires and tunnels. We play a few fun ice breakers to help reduce inhibitions and break down barriers, after that the students receive a safety brief and then they are off around the course where they find themselves having to try new things. Later in the session we look at taking responsibility for others which can involve problem solving and communication skills.
Mountain Biking – Alton Castle is justifiably proud to be an Approved British Cycling Mountain Bike Leadership Centre. Starting with bike checks we do some skills exercises in the castle moat on our purpose built obstacle course before venturing off into the Churnet Valley to explore the extensive network of woodland trails.
Survival – During this session the students learn practical skills about building improvised shelters, treating water so that it is safe to drink, lighting fires without matches and rudimentary cooking over an open fire.
Adventure Treks – So much more than going for a walk. We teach the students about the Country Code, basic navigation and simple emergency procedures before we set of on one of the many trails we have in the surrounding countryside.
Crate Stack – we have a three line Crate Stack facility which enables the students to work together to build as high a tower as they dare or at least until it wobbles and falls over!
